Ike

Life is good! Change that. Life is great! I've really been blessed. I can honestly say that I have loved every "job" that I've ever had. Teaching high school English at Lehighton Area High School was the best. I treasured every one of my 35 years there. I was also fortunate to have coached baseball for the Indians for 25 of those years. It was my dream "job." Radio was also a thrill. I started my career at WMUH in Allentown at the age of 17. After learning the "ins and out" I was lucky to then get hired at WKAP, Allentown, where I would do a Saturday and Sunday air shift. From there, I got a big break. I was hired to do weekends at WIFI-92 in Philadelphia. AT the time Philly was the 3rd largest market in the country.

In 1977, I was hired at WAEB, Allentown, where I did every shift under the sun. I stayed there for 16 years until the station changed to its present day talk show format. Then in 2002, I was hired to do weekends and fill-ins at Oldies 99.9, Easton, PA. I stayed there until the station changed its format.

In the past few years, I had a chance to dabble in various endeavors. I've been a freelance writer for Sports Collectors Digest, where I have been published over 50 times writing articles on Mickey Mantle sports memorabilia.

In 2014, I filled in as the backup public address announcer for the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. And now, another chapter of my life opens as I begin Penn's Peak Radio.

We asked Ike...

How did you get into radio? I was a junior at Whitehall High School in 1973 and called the DJ at WAEB, Allentown and asked how one gets into radio. It just so happened that the DJ was responsible for keeping WMUH (Muhlenberg College) on the air while the students were on Christmas and Easter break. He was looking for people who wanted to learn. This turned out to be a stroke of luck. After being on the air for 2 months, I put together an air check and was hired at WKAP doing weekends. A year later, I was hired to do weekends at WIFI-92 in Philadelphia and would come back home to WAEB in 1977. In 2001, I was hired to do weekends and fill-ins at Oldies 99.9, WODE, Easton.

What is your guilty pleasure? Red velvet cake, soft pretzels, and brown licorice

If you were going to be on a reality TV show (real or fake) what would it be? I'm not 100% sure that American Pickers is a reality show because i think it is staged, but I would love to be a picker with Mike and Frank.

If you had a "real job" what would it be? My "real" job would be playing short stop for the NY Yankees.

What's waiting for you when you get home? My wife and my camera
